DESCRIPTION
GREAT PRICE ! We've owned all the masks we are selling for at least 30 years. Many of them carry paper labels of origin. These masks are in awesome condition and display excellent workmanship. For sale in this auction is an Indonesian Devil or Demon Mask.  Mouth is open but no eye holes.   This is a real attention getter!  Notable for its Indonesian red-and-gold coloration, this vintage collectible hand-carved and hand-carved decorative wooden Balinese demon mask is characterized by its pointed ears, heavy, thick black eyebrows; concentric wide-open hallucinogenic eyes; protuberant, upward--thrusting tusks; wide nose and flaring lips and nostrils and mouth filled with thick white irregular teeth. It has a handsome decorated border in black-and-gold. This is a mask intended for wall display and is at least thirty years old (it's been in seller's possession for at least that long) and is probably considerably older. Its height is 9", width about 9 3/4".   There is a wire affixed to the back of the mask for hanging.
MY PERSONAL NOTE:
You'll see a lot of masks for sale and most of them are truly "original" masks but they were made for the express purpose of being a wall decoration.  They were made by natives for and sold to the tourist trade moving through the various countries. Very few of these masks are wearable masks. The masks we are selling were indeed made by natives for decorating foreign walls and being memories of worldly travels.   Masks that were actually worn in ceremonies by natives in the bush cost hundreds and often thousands of dollars and for every authentic one  there are a hundred fakes.  All of the masks we are selling on ebay were made are vintage, but made since 1900.  Just know what you are buying and enjoy collecting some really cool pieces of native art. Just don't think you're buying a lost treasure of the upper Nile for something under a hundred bucks.  These are super masks to buy and enjoy. They make an awesome wall decoration in a den or living area and can be the source of endless conversations. When guests see them the first thing we usually hear is, "oh Cool, Look at these!"
