DESCRIPTION
Original pre1940s Wayeng Topeng dance mask from Java. Hand made from Pule wood this mask depicts the face of an old man with a mustache made from what appears to be real hair. This may be the Prime Ministers mask and dates from around the turn of the 20th century. There are several versions of Prime Ministers in the Topeng dance dramas performed, Patih Manis and Patih Keras are two of them.
Topeng (Indonesian for "mask") is a dramatic form of Indonesian dance in which one or more mask-wearing, ornately costumed performers interpret traditional narratives concerning fabled kings, heroes and myths, accompanied by gamelan music
MEASUREMENTS
Mask measures 7.25“ long by 6.25" wide by 2.75“ deep and weighs 5oz.
CONDITION
In good condition with wear and tear commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
