(Please note: If you happen to be viewing this 1984 Porsche 928 S on a website other than our Garage Kept Motors site, it's possible that you've only seen some of our many photographs of the car due to third-party website limitations. To be sure you access all the more than 150 photographs, as well as a short start-up and walk-around video, and a link to the 928's accident-and-damage-free Carfax history report, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.)
"Like all Porsches, the 928 began as a challenge: to build a car that would satisfy Professor Porsche's obsession with technological leadership. And keep R&D entertained at the same time." - Porsche 928 period magazine advertisement
Here's how the legendary editor of Car and Driver described the Porsche 928 at its launch: "About once every ten years, some car comes along that forces the automotive community to re-examine all of its preconceptions and conventional wisdom. The Porsche 928 is exactly that kind of automotive phenomenon. It will blow your mind, knock your socks off, toss your hat in the creek. If some Philistine should suggest that you could buy a pretty nice mobile home for the same money, stick your fingers into his nose and rip it off his face. For ten years or more Motor Trend and Road & Track have been bilking gullible citizens into purchasing magazines with 'The All-New Mid-Engine Corvette for 1968-70-75-80-85' (choose one). When this Porsche hits the street, an all-new mid-engine Corvette will look at least a day late and a dollar short."
Offered here is a 1984 Porsche 928 S in Ruby Red Metallic over tan. The 1984 model year is the first of only three years that the S model (with its increased engine displacement and output) was produced. Originally delivered in Massachusetts with long-term ownership in Arizona, this beautiful, well-maintained example shows 70,602 miles on its odometer, roughly just 1,900 miles per-year on average since new. The car's full list of standard and optional equipment is shown on its laminated factory window sticker available in the photo gallery. Extensive ,000 recent-service records are in the gallery as well.
The original paint on this 928 S retains excellent gloss and a deep shine across all body panels, including the plastic composite front and rear bumper (with "Porsche" identification) covers. In general, darker colors are thought by enthusiasts to better showcase the design's curves and subtle cues. Previous owner care shows in the absence of any dents, dings, or other body damage, including on the factory aluminum side trim. Another indication is the absence of discoloration of the black window trim often seen on cars exposed to the sun over extended periods. Similarly, front and rear spoilers are undamaged or faded. Lightly tinted cabin glass is free of damage, including on the beautifully curved expansive rear hatch. The finish on the factory power-sunroof is similarly excellent. Bespoke pop-up headlights are clear and operate properly. Other lighting lenses, including the lower-front driving and signaling lights, side-marker lights, and taillights, are likewise undamaged. Factory body trim is all present and undamaged. Barnum® (now part of Continental®) Bravuris 3HM 215/55 tires are mounted on original-equipment, 16-inch Gullideckel alloy wheels in factory matte finish, with Porsche-crest center caps.
Inside, tan leather covers not only the seat, but also door inserts and rear-center armrest (hence "Special Leather" option shown on the window sticker). The front buckets in the 928 were among the most comfortable seats then available on any car, as befits a luxury autobahn cruiser. The excellent overall condition of the leather with only expected light creasing is another indication of owner care. The dark-brown, 928S-embossed steering wheels frames classic Porsche VDO® analog instruments including the 160-mph speedometer (not a case of manufacturer hype as the car's tested top speed when new was 158 mph.) The entire instrument pod is height-adjustable. A single small crack on the dashboard forward of the instrument pod is the only slight flaw in an otherwise undamaged dash (yet another indication that the car was shielded from the sun). The center console includes heating and air-conditioning controls, the original Blaupunkt® audio unit, and a digital clock. The shift lever for the 4-speed manual transmission (also rare as by 1984, most 928s were delivered with automatics) displays the dog-leg shift pattern. Push-button controls for the windows and sunroof are located on the console to the rear of the shifter.
Under the hood, the Bosch® LH fuel-injected, aluminum-block, 16-valve, 4.7-liter (up from the 4.5 liters in the earlier models) V8 is a dominant presence. Its long, twin air-supply tubes and metal Porsche crest atop the "spider" intake make for a vintage-Porsche delight. When new, this engine produced 236hp. The power is delivered to the rear wheels via a transaxle differential allowing for near-50-50 front-rear weight distribution. Viewed from below, the car's chassis is complete, undamaged, and unmodified. It's noteworthy that the often-missing, protective cover beneath the engine is still in place (a final indication of owner care).

About Garage Kept Motors
Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.
For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.
For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
